Runqi Weng
Violinist Runqi Weng began her musical studies at the age of four with professors Wei Wei and Guan Wenhui of the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. She went on to serve as concertmaster of the Little Angel Orchestra in Guangzhou, the Guangdong Experimental Middle School Symphony Orchestra, and the Zhi Xin Middle School Symphony Orchestra, and was a founding member of the Guangzhou Symphony Youth Orchestra. At seventeen, she entered the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing with top marks, studying with renowned professors Xu Li and Liang Danan. She has also gained valuable inspiration through masterclasses with distinguished artists including Hu Kun, Isabella Lippi, Oleh Krysa, Giovanni Angeleri, Alexandre Brussilovsky, and Ning Feng.
Weng’s early successes include top prizes at the Hong Kong International Violin & Chamber Music Competition and first place in the preliminary round of the 2019 Oleh Krysa International Violin Competition. In 2020, she was invited by the Amber String Quartet—one of China’s leading ensembles—to perform as second violinist in Germany at the official Beethoven 250th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony, where her performance received high praise. That same year, she also won third prize in the Korea-China International Music Competition.
In 2021, she was awarded a generous scholarship to pursue graduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with Ilya and Olga Kaler. The following year, she attended the prestigious Heifetz International Music Institute on scholarship, working with world-class violinists and collaborating with outstanding young musicians. In 2024, Weng was admitted to the Doctor of Musical Arts program at Michigan State University, where she studies with internationally acclaimed violinist Dmitri Berlinsky.
