I met Roy Hage backstage before his full-house performance in one of Ohio’s own CityMusic concerts in Rocky River Ohio. When I asked 20 year old Roy how his tenor career began, he threw me a big smile and simply stated that he’s still quite new to the world of opera. That his parents are from the Shouf area in Lebanon, and that he was born and raised until the age of ten in Fairfax, Virginia. He says when he was about 17 or 18 years old, he saw the famous Opera, “Solome’ “ by Richard Straus, and that that is where Roy believes he was struck “by love” ....of the world of Opera ofcoarse!

And as I sat in a jam-packed church fi lled to the rim of eager ears awaiting to hear the voice of Roy Hage, to my delight and to all in attendence, we were enchanted by the deep and beautifully fl owing voice that came from the stage in accompaniment of the CityMusic Orchestra.

Lebanese-American tenor Roy Hage, praised for his rich and robust voice, has sung with the Oberlin Opera Theater and Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Clarksburg Symphony Orchestra, West Virginia University Opera Theater and Orchestra, Interlochen Arts Academy Opera Theater, and the Orchestra of the Lebanese National Conservatory of Music. His performance credits include Cendrillon (Le Prince Charmant), L’Egisto (Hipparco), Summer and Smoke (Vernon), Così fan Tutte (Guglielmo) and Louise (Le Noctambule). He has also performed selections from Pique Dame (Hermann), Der Freischütz (Max), Dialogues des Carmélites (Chevalier de la Force), and Yeomen of the Guard (Jack Point).

A sophomore at the Oberlin Conservatory studying with Salvatore Champagne and graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy, Mr. Hage’s concert and oratorio performances include soloist in Handel’s Messiah and Semele, Fauré’s Requiem, Mozart’s Missae Brevi in D and F, Vaughan Williams’s Serenade to Music and Five Mystical Songs, and Albinoni’s Magnifi cat.

This summer Roy Hage will be performing La Rondine (Prunier) for Italian audiences in Cortona and Castiglion Fiorentino. We wish this American son of Lebanese parents goodluck and a fruitfull singing career! Success to you always Roy Hage!
