Paula Casteneda


paula castenedaBorn in Bogotá, Colombia, She started studying violin at Fundación Nacional Batuta. At fifteen she entered in the Conservatory of Universidad Nacional de Colombia, she studied with professors Rodrigo Cottier, José Luis Benavides and Eduardo Berrío. She received her Bachelor of music degree in violin performance from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, under the tutelage of Eduardo Berrío. After graduating she was selected by audition to play with the Filarmónica Jóven de Colombia being part of the orchestra as a concertmaster and as a soloist, playing in different halls throughout the country. She has toured Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Brazil, Chile, Poland, Germany and the United States with different orchestras and ensembles including Filarmónica Jóven de Colombia, YOA Orchestra of the Americas, Serenata Colombiana, Academia Internacional Teatro el lago and Éfferus string quartet. She has also participated in master classes with distinguished artist such as Adrian Chamorro, Frank Preuss, Robert McDuffie,  Anne Akiko Meyers, Mary Ann Mumm, Igor Lara, Benny Kim, John McGrosso, Julia Sakharova, Zsolt Tihamér Visontay, Arón Bitran, St Lawrence, Avalon, Miami, Arianna and Latinoamericano string quartets. Additionally she has played with Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia, Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica de Bogotá FOSBO as a concertmaster, Orquesta Sinfónica de Caldas as a concertmaster and Nueva Filarmonía as principal second violin.

Currently, she is in her second year of masters studies in chamber music performance with Éfferus String Quartet at Kent State University under the tutelage of Cathy Meng Robinson, Amy lee and Keith Robinson.
