Colombian violist Cristian Diaz holds a Bachelors degree in Violin Performance from Colombia’s National University Conservatory of Music. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Chamber music with members of the Miami String Quartet, Keith Robinson and Cathy Meng Robinson, and his main viola professor Joanna Patterson Zakany, member of the prestigious Cleveland Orchestra, at Kent State University.
Mr. Diaz has been part of many orchestras such as the Orquesta de Cuerdas Juvenil Javeriana, the Symphony Orchestra of the Colombia’s National University Conservatory of Music, Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica de Bogotá (FOSBO), Orquesta de cuerdas Serenata Colombiana, Filarmónica Joven de Colombia, Orquesta Nueva Filarmonía, YOA Orquestra of the Americas (2015) and the Orquesta Filarmónica Juvenil de Bogotá. Mr. Diaz was runner up in the KSU concerto competition (2017) and has been selected to become part of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy 2018 in Dortmund, Germany. He is also a member of the Efferus String Quartet.
Cristian is the winner of the inaugural CityMusic Cleveland Fellowship. He will perform with CityMusic Chamber Orchestra throughout the 2018-2019 season (under the mentorship of principal string players), participate in chamber music programs, and work with administrative staff to learn about the operations of a professional orchestra. This fellowship is offered so that membership of our orchestra can better reflect the multicultural and diverse population of Cleveland.
