Flutist Brianne Sharkey Olsen recently graduated from Northwestern University with a Master’s of Music in flute performance. She received her BM from Northwestern in 2002, studying under Walfrid Kujala and Richard Graef, and then went to Kent, England, to study under world-renowned flute pedagogue, Trevor Wye at “The Flute Studio” from 2002 to 2004. A Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship and the Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship provided for her two years in England. In 2006, she was a finalist in the National Flute Association Orchestral Audition Competition.
Ms. Olsen has also been a winner of the Central Ohio Flute Association Competition and the Tuesday Musical Club of Akron Young Artist Competition as well as a finalist in the Frank Bowen Young Artist Competition. She has been guest soloist with the Ashtabula and the Middletown Symphony Orchestras. Ms. Olsen has performed in the College Light Opera Company in Cape Cod and the MasterWorks Festival Orchestra and she recently returned from Italy where she played principal flute with the Rome Festival Orchestra.
